MACS motion control units: Dynamic on-the-fly CAM profiling

CAM profiles are used to synchronize drives in the paper, printing, packaging and food processing industries. There are many tasks that need precise and fast reaction to achieve both high performance and high quality:

  • CDs or brochures need to be fed into newspaper flows without any skips.
  • Labels need to be attached precisely while goods pass at more than 100,000 pieces per hour.
  • Endless paper rolls running at 300 m/min need to be cut or perforated.

The fixed upright shafts used in former times can no longer cope with today's demand for high flexibility. Modern motion control units or sofware libraries for embedded systems are a reliable solution for this. Each CAM profile can be unique and is calculated in real time by the control unit. This gives the flexibilty to react to varying marker signals and to adapt the production quickly to different products: Flying saw applications can process different product lengths at each cut. Labels can be synchronously fed to different places depending on the product.

zub machine control AG offers low-cost motion control units as well as software libraries for embedded systems plus extensive motion control know-how. There is no longer any need for large PLCs or expensive motion control libraries and interfaces. One compact module does the synchronization job for up to three axes.

MACS4-DSP: Multi-axis positioning & synchronisation

Data sheet: 1, 2, or 3 axis control MACS4-DSP.The MACS4-DSP motion control module takes responsibilty for the high-accuracy multi-axis motor positioning and synchronisation tasks inside modern machines. Standard interfaces for incremental and absolute encoders, as well as highly sophisticated motion control logic, are integrated. Development tools are free of charge and enable extremely efficient programming and online debugging. The MACS4-DSP can be used as an intelligent motion control slave module or as a stand-alone control solution. CAN, USB, EtherCAT are the industrial links for any data exhange with PLCs, PCs, servo amplifiers, frequency converters or I/O extensions.

MACS4-DC6: 6-axis Motion-Control with integrated Amplifiers

The MACS4-DC6 is the best choice for high-accuracy, but low-cost, positioning of up to six small DC motors. Both stand-alone control mode and slave mode are possible. Motion control functionality can be included in almost any system or PLC just by adding MACS4-DC6 modules. The MACS4-DC6 offers all the required motion control functionality plus encoder interfaces and power stages for six motors of up to 180W peak each.

Typical fields of application include the automation of stop positioning in machines or multi-axis robot control in analytic equipment. A free-of-charge development environment allows users to program or adapt the functionality to the application's requirements. Ready-to-run DS402 multi-axis control application code is available for plugand-play solutions without any programming. USB, CAN and EtherCAT interfaces are the communication links to exchange data with PLCs and PCs.

MACS4-DC3: Compact 3-axis Motion Control Power module

The MACS4-DC3 is a small-sized motion control solution, specially designed for integration in technical equipment. It is possible to connect up to three 24V or 48V servo motors. The PWM power stages, as well as the positioning and synchronisation logic, are integrated in the compact housing.

Typical fields of application include robots and X/Y/Z tables. Feedback sensors such as incremental, SSI or SinCos encoders, can be connected directly without the need for additional external interface hardware. More than one feedback sensor can be evaluated per axis. This is key for high-precision positioning tasks including automatic slip compensation.

The MACS4-DC3 is a freely programmable device which makes it easy to adapt the functionality exactly to the application requirements. Even highly sophisticated motion control and process tasks can be deligated to the MACS4-DC3. A supervisor system can just call up the required functionality by using USB, CAN or EtherCAT commands. Stand-alone operation is also possible.

OEM versions with special connector types, housings, or enhanced power stages, are available starting from 500 units per year.

DSA-E4: Slim servo amplifiers for hat rails

The DSA-E4 servo amplifiers are designed for space-saving integration in an electrical cabinet. The slim housing can be mounted easily on standard DIN hat rails.

Brush-type and brushless 24V or 48V motors can be driven with up to 30A peak. Current, torque, velocity and position control operating modes are supported. The complete configuration by CANopen bus commands gives high reproducibility to all settings. The set command is given via CAN or +/-10V. Up to 4 digital inputs can be configured for the connection of enable, limit and reference switches. It is also possible to preconfigure the DSA as a replacement for old analog amplifiers.

Multi-axis solutions and axis synchronisation are achieved by the combination of a MACS motion control module and DSA servo amplifiers.

DSA-E2: Compact & Powerful Servo Amplifier

The servo amplifier DSA-E2 offers a maximum of power in a very compact housing (30 x 100 x 112 mm). A supply range of 10 - 60V DC, 50A peak and 25A continuous current is the basis for the high-dynamic operation of brushtype and brushless motors.

The slim front design enables space-saving integration even under limited assembly conditions. It is also possible to mount the metal housing of the amplifier close to the motor. Pluggable clamps reduce the wiring effort for series production and enable easy handling in the field.

The CANopen interface allows identical and quick configuration of the device and enables accurate motor control and feedback observation. The combination of DSA amplifiers and the MACS4 multi-axis control unit enables even highly sophisticated motion-control tasks such as multi-axis positioning or on-the-fly CAM profiling.

OEM versions offering different power ratings or other interfaces (e.g. EtherCAT) are available starting at 500 units/year.
